You’re not alone if you feel like every product and food is part of a recall lately. From car seats to kitchen appliances, cucumbers to carrots, and now a parent-favorite product sunscreen from Babyganics. The company, owned by SC Johnson & Son, Inc., discovered an impurity during a routine check and is voluntarily issuing the recall—and product refunds for affected Babyganics mineral sunscreen—because it doesn’t meet their quality standards.

According to Babyganics’ website, “a potential impurity was discovered in the products” and “out of an abundance of caution we are asking retailers and consumers to return the products for a full refund.” Here’s what to know about the Babyganics sunscreen recall and how to get your refund if you have the affected products.

Which Babyganics Sunscreen Is Part of the Recall?

The only Babyganics sunscreen products affected by the recall are:

  • Babyganics kids SPF 50+ mineral sunscreen rollerball, totally tropical
  • Babyganics kids SPF 50+ mineral sunscreen continuous spray, totally tropical

According to a report from the CBC, affected products have expiry dates of November 2025 and April 2026.

Why was the Babyganics Sunscreen Recalled?

According to the Babyganics website, the impurity was discovered during a routine quality control check. “The impurity is a solvent that should not be present in these products. While additional evaluations revealed no health or safety risks for consumers, we are recalling the product because the finished product did not meet our specifications for quality,” the company shared on their website.

Although the Babyganics website assures consumers the product does not pose any health and safety risks, a report from Health Canada is advising parents to immediately discontinue use citing the 1,2-Dimethoxyethane residual solvent “can be absorbed through the skin and by inhalation, and may cause side effects when used frequently over a large surface area of the body or if inhaled. Side effects may include harm to fetal development and harm to the reproductive system for anyone. While these health consequences are very unlikely, it cannot be ruled out.” Of course, parents and caregivers should contact their healthcare provider with any concerns.
