Vacations are wonderful, but who hasn’t muttered the phrase, “I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed” at some point? Home is where our bed is, which means our bedroom should be a spot for restful sleep—unless maybe you have a newborn or a toddler newly transitioned to a big kid bed. But overall, our primary bedrooms are best used for morning snuggles, evening rituals, and a good night’s sleep.
However, our bedrooms can also be easily overtaken by kid stuff, piles of clothes, or errant socks. Like any other room in the house, it doesn’t take much time for a bedroom to become disorganized and feel a little bit chaotic which is not exactly the best environment for a restful sleep. But there are a few ways to turn your bedroom into a more relaxing oasis. Read on for five tips to help.
1. Support Your Bedtime Ritual With Reminders
Much like our littles thrive on routines, having a bedtime ritual can send a signal to our bodies that it’s time for sleep. Whether you have a 10-step nighttime skincare routine or you just brush your teeth and hit the lights, the act of going through the same steps each night develops a consistent ritual.
In his popular book, Atomic Habits, James Clear writes that “mak[ing] the cues of good habits obvious and visible” is one way to get them to stick. For example, if you want to remember to do a few yoga stretches at night, place a yoga mat in plain view near your bed. Want to remember to floss? Keep a spool right next to your toothbrush on the bathroom counter. For me, I want to take care of my skin head to toe, so on top of my facial skincare routine, I add body care to my bedtime ritual right before I hit the sheets by using Social CBD.
To help set my body up for sleep, I've added Social CBD lotion to my own bedtime ritual. With 40mg of CBD per use, plus arnica and Magnesium, I use the lotion on my hands, feet, and any other part of my body that could use a little care. Plus, it includes a calming aromatherapy blend of Lavender, Bergamot, and Chamomile—the perfect scents for drifting off to sleep. I leave it on my nightstand as a visible reminder to put it on before I get into bed. Use code EVERYMOM to get 20% off your Social CBD purchase! 2. Keep Your Space Uncluttered
To any mom who has moved the pile of clean laundry from her bed to the chair nearby instead of putting it away, I see you (I am you). But attempting to keep our bedrooms uncluttered sets us up for rest so much better than having reminders of tomorrow’s chores sitting nearby.
In the viral “Make Your Bed” commencement speech from a few years back, US Navy Admiral William H. McRaven spoke of the power of making your bed each day, “[even if you have] a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made,” he said, “…and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow could be better.” If you only do one thing to tidy your bedroom each day, make your bed. If you want to add a few more steps to easily tidy the space, here are a few products to help.

3. Choose the Right Layers
Some people are hot sleepers, sweating through pajamas and sheets any time the thermostat registers over 70, while others like feeling tucked in under layers of bedding or weighted blankets. Some people use only duvets and avoid top sheets, and others have throw pillows and body pillows perfectly positioned each night. There are even some people who swear by the same pillow they’ve had since childhood (or maybe that’s just my husband).
Regardless, the right layers for sleep can vary based on room temperature and preferences, so it helps to understand your own ideal bedding environment. Fabrics like cotton or linen are naturally more breathable while synthetic fabrics like polyester are often budget-friendly but trap heat. Here are some layers to consider for a good night’s sleep.

4. Be Intentional With Lighting
Banish bright overhead lights from your bedroom, especially as it gets close to bedtime. Instead, opt for some ambient lighting. Bedside table lights or mounted sconces with lower wattage bulbs add style and just enough lighting to your bedroom. You could also consider managing morning and evening light with window treatments depending on your preferences—from gentle light filtering options to full-blown black-out shades.
A bedside sconce is a perfect addition for nighttime reading and bedroom style. multiple finishes available Replace the bulb in your bedside lamp with a BIOS Lighting Nightfall LED bulb to help promote a better night's sleep. The bulbs give off a glow akin to a campfire, mimicking nature's end of the day indoors. I use these lightbulbs in mine and my kids' bedside lamps.
5. Add Personal Touches
Any bedroom can mimic a hotel’s aesthetic, but it’s the personal touches that make a bedroom feel like home. Adding framed family pictures, travel photos, or meaningful artwork to add a warmth no blanket or comforter can replicate.
