A child’s 4th birthday is a big milestone. For many kids, they may be celebrating during their first year of preschool. For parents, it may seem like your toddler is most definitely now a kid. And developmentally, in my opinion, age 4 tends to get really, really fun.
At age 4, kids are most likely potty trained, so getting out and about requires less supplies in your diaper bag. They’re getting more chatty; telling stories, asking thoughtful questions, and making you laugh.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 4-year-old kids have a burst of imagination too; you may find them playing “mom” or “dad” or engaging in vivid fantasies. They are also learning to count and identify colors, and can even begin drawing figures that look like what they are (i.e.,people have heads and a body). Plus, they’ve finally grown out of that “small parts choking hazard, not for children under 3 years” warning label on toys.
With all that in mind, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite birthday gifts for 4 year olds; from learning toys based in STEM concepts to toys at-the-ready to spark their imaginations. Read on for 10 of the best 4th birthday gifts that aren’t toys.
