When I brought my first baby home over four years ago, the only thing I felt absolutely certain about was the fact that I had no clue what I was doing. It took me almost an entire year to feel confident in my abilities as a mom. Naturally, as soon as I got the hang of the whole parenting thing, I found myself staring at a positive pregnancy test seven days after my son’s 1st birthday (surprise!).
I felt so much more sure of myself with our second baby because I knew what to expect, plus I had just done it 20 months prior. But really, nothing could’ve prepared our family for the chaos of the newborn blowouts, toddler tantrums, and daily runs to the store for yet another kid-related purchase. Our patience—and money—was thoroughly spent. Now that they’re 2.5 and 4, I can think back on what I could’ve done to make that first year smoother. Interestingly, the number one thing I wish I’d been smarter about is something seemingly ordinary: purchasing premium quality yet affordable diapers.
Yes, you read that right, diapers. When you have two tiny children poopin’ around the clock, a diaper’s quality and cost matter more than most other baby products. Low-quality diapers result in constant leaking, soiled outfits, more frequent nightly wakings, and an overall waste of money. Plus, diapers are items you’ll spend up to four years purchasing per kid, which makes choosing the right brand even more important. My daughter is still in diapers, and although my son is potty trained, he still uses training pants at night. We recently switched to Rascals (formerly Rascal + Friends) Premium Diapers and Training Pants, and I was kicking myself for not trying them sooner because when you find a brand that works, it makes life so much easier. Here’s why I wish we would’ve purchased Rascals diapers from the very beginning:
They’re engineered to handle even the biggest of blowouts
If you’re still in the newborn stage and find yourself thinking, “Gosh, I can’t wait until we’re done cleaning blowouts,” I regret to report that those will last well into the toddler years. At least they did for us with our previous diapers. The fairly regular blowouts we experienced should’ve been a prime indicator that we needed to switch brands, but for some reason, I believed they were inevitable. Just a normal part of parenthood, right? Rascals diapers proved me wrong within a week.
Not to embarrass my daughter, but there are some mornings she wakes up announcing, “I poop!” and, boy, did she. In the past, I’d see the evidence of her statement on her PJ bottoms and sometimes her sheets, but since switching to Rascals diapers, her infamous morning poops are now neatly contained. Their diapers have what’s called a “Hydrolock Core™”, which holds up to 25 times its weight in liquid1 for 12 hours of leak protection2.
They also absorb up to 78 percent3 more than other diaper brands, and I’ve seen proof of that time and time again. Before I even put them on my daughter, I could feel how much extra padding these diapers have in comparison to our old brand. The “frillies,” as we like to say, at the bottom of the diaper also extend much further past her thigh to provide superior coverage. It’s been three months of using Rascals, and I haven’t had to clean poop stains from her clothes this entire time. I can only imagine how many baby clothes I could’ve saved if I had used these diapers back then.
Rascals offers diaper sizes N to size 7, and training pants sizes 2T-3T to 5T-6T. Their diaper sizes 4-7 and all training pant sizes have been designed with popular characters from CoComelon!
The affordability and accessibility are unmatched
Not only would I have saved countless adorable baby clothes with Rascals diapers but also a very pretty penny. I’ve used several brands of diapers over the last four years, but Rascals is by far the most affordable premium diaper we’ve tried. During her newborn stage, I tried a different premium diaper brand that cost me $24 for a pack of 96 diapers. Meanwhile, Rascals’ newborn size, size 1, and size 2 diapers cost $19 for the same amount of diapers. And yes, I can attest that Rascals’ quality is just as good.
Their larger sizes are affordable, too—the size 6 my daughter uses is $39 for a pack of 112, while the old premium diaper brand I used is priced at $39 for a pack of 88. Now that my daughter goes to daycare full-time and needs an extra pack of diapers sent to her school monthly, Rascals’ affordability is a major plus.
You also don’t need a subscription to easily get a pack of Rascals diapers—they’re conveniently sold in-store or online at Walmart. Accessibility is a must for us because of how often we run low on diapers. Our day-to-day gets so busy working full-time with two littles, so it’s not until we’re grabbing the last diaper that we realize we need more. Thankfully, we have a Walmart five minutes away from us that also offers roadside pickup and same-day delivery.
Their products grow with your kid through every stage
Rascals has a full-size range of diapers from newborn to size 7 and training pants from size 2T-3T to 5T-6T, so they’ve got your kiddo covered through every age and stage. My son was potty trained when he was 3 years old, but we still use training pants at night to avoid accidents. But he has very sensitive skin, and we’ve had to switch training pants several times because certain brands would irritate him. We haven’t had any issues with Rascals because their products are made with materials tested by dermatologists and safe on sensitive skin. Their training pants feature an “UltraFlex 360 Waistband,” so no matter what crazy position he sleeps in, they stay put all night long.
Rascals also offers Premium Sensitive Wipes and 99% Water Premium Wipes that contain no fragrance, alcohol, phenoxyethanol, perfume, phthalates, SLS, parabens, or lanolin. We use the sensitive wipes during diaper changes and haven’t seen any irritation. We even bring them on the go to clean their faces and clothes after messy mealtimes.
I’ve had zero complaints about Rascals products since we discovered them—albeit a couple of years later than I would’ve preferred now that I see their superior quality and price point. Even though my kids are reaching the end of the diapering stage, we’re at least ending on a positive note thanks to Rascals. If you’re still in the baby stage or are about to have another, Rascals is the diaper brand I recommend trusting.
