I have long believed that one of the most fulfilling parts of parenthood is discovering a new book alongside my little ones. To flip the pages on a new read for the first time is to taste adventure in all its glory, whether we’re exploring new lands or meeting mythical creatures along the way. Books have guided us through tough times, too, helping my oldest navigate the rocky terrain of new sisterhood. They walked us through losing our beloved old cat and eased my youngest into life beyond diapers. In short, whenever we have needed guidance, comfort, or momentary escapism, my kids and I have always turned to our bookshelves first.
So there’s nothing quite as thrilling as flipping through the new releases from a publisher and getting a sneak peek at what’s coming down the pike. Each season, my girls and I delight at the potential picks we’ll cozy up with together.
Here are some of the picture books we can’t wait to add to our TBR pile, including two new titles from one of our favorite series, Little People, Big Dreams.

Little People, Big Dreams: Marilyn Monroe
I love a picture book that makes learning accessible and fun for even the youngest of children. The Little People Big Dreams series delivers yet again with its take on the true story of Marilyn Monroe. Through charming text and darling illustrations, young readers will meet Norma Jeane, the orphaned little girl who defied the odds and grew into an iconic movie star. In true Little People Big Dreams fashion, this story is part educational, part inspirational, and 100 percent entertaining.

Little People, Big Dreams: Kamala Harris
Before she was the first Black woman and the first South Asian American to assume the vice presidency of the United States, Kamala Harris was a little girl growing up in a loving home in California. In this sweetly illustrated biography, young readers will see a bit of themselves in this smart kid—and find the inspiration they'll need to pursue dreams of their own. Like all the Little People Big Dreams books, this title shows our little ones what's possible when they believe in themselves.

I'll admit, every time a publisher drops a story about Laika—the Russian dog hurtled into space—I pick it up immediately. But this one, with it's charming illustrations and beautiful back story showing the historical significance of her ride, is a must-read for sure.
