The Busy Mom Hack That Made Me Ditch Grocery Store Cards

Let’s set the scene: It’s your best friend’s birthday. You meant to pick up a card at the store two days ago, but between work meetings, school drop-off, cleaning food stains out of your toddler’s new shirt, and trying to remember the last time you showered—yeah, it didn’t happen. So now you’re standing in the greeting card aisle, frantically flipping through whatever’s left: a generic “To a Special Nephew” card and one with a dog in sunglasses that might be your only hope.

This used to be me. I love giving gifts, like the really thoughtful kind that make people light up because they mentioned it in passing months ago or because it’s customized to their specific taste. But I’ve come to accept that the elaborate, perfectly curated presents of my pre-kid days just aren’t always realistic anymore. What I didn’t expect was that a greeting card website—yes, a website—would swoop in and completely salvage what was left of my gifting game.

Why Moonpig is a lifesaver for moms

Enter: Moonpig, AKA my secret weapon. I discovered Moonpig last year, and now I use it for every birthday, anniversary, holiday, teacher thank-you, you name it. It’s the ideal blend of thoughtful and easy—the best of both worlds, if you will.

You can create custom cards with minimal effort

Moonpig has hundreds of cute, funny, and sentimental card designs fit for any occasion, and the magic is in how personal you can make them. I usually pop in a sweet note (typed or handwritten), upload a few photos of the kids (grandparent kryptonite) or fun memories, and send it on its merry way. It takes 10 minutes max—and that includes me getting interrupted by my 3-year-old’s snack request mid-way through.

You can set up reminders to never forget a birthday or special occasion

My favorite mom hack within a mom hack: Moonpig lets you add birthdays and special dates to your account, and then reminds you ahead of time. No more panicked, “Wait… was Abuela’s birthday yesterday?” You can even schedule cards ahead so they’re automatically sent, which is next-level efficient energy I can only aspire to.

They’ll mail the card (and more) straight to the recipient

Once the card is perfectly customized and ready to go, Moonpig ships it directly to the lucky recipient’s door, email inbox, if you’re reeeally cutting it close, or to your house in case you want to give it to them in person. You can also include gift cards to their favorite stores (Sephora, Target, you name it) or even flowers, so it’s a full-on celebration in one click. No post office trip required (hallelujah).

Personalized cards from Moonpig for every occasion

Since hopping on the Moonpig train, I’ve made cards for everything from my husband’s birthday to a surprise “We’re thinking of you!” for my sister-in-law during a hard week. The best part? Everyone loves them. They’ve become the thing my friends and family look forward to the most—and honestly, I’ve never felt like such a thoughtful genius with such little effort. No matter what occasion you’re in the market for, Moonpig has got you covered. Here are some of our faves:
