In what seemed like an abrupt change overnight, my happy-to-eat-anything toddler turned into a picky eater who refused to eat anything but Cheerios and processed snack bars. I was not pleased by the change.
As someone who deeply believes in the power of balanced nutrition for overall health and wellness, it pained me to give into my toddler’s constant snack requests. I had been so proud when my baby was starting solids and would chomp away on broccoli, and this new toddler stage was not something I was prepared to tackle. How would I get my stubborn child to eat vegetables?
While I continued to serve veggies that went uneaten, I realized there was a simple solution to get her to eat her greens without complaint. It’s the same way I insert extra servings of vegetables into my own day when I’m not in a veggie mood.
The answer, you ask? Smoothies! And not even smoothies I have to take the time to make myself (thankfully). Little Spoon, one of our favorite kids-focused food brands, recently released a line of organic Smoothies, and if you have a picky eater on your hands, or are just looking for an healthy snack you and your kid can agree on, these delicious Smoothies may be the answer to your nutrition struggles.

You may already know Little Spoon for their fresh, organic Babyblends and toddler and kid meals, Plates and now you can turn to them for Smoothies, their newest product. Little Spoon‘s mission is all about making parents’ lives easier while keeping kids healthy, and these new Smoothies fit that mission.
Adding veggies to smoothies—when done well—adds a huge boost of nutrition while not detracting from the flavor. Little Spoon‘s recipes are well balanced and do just that: gives your toddler the fruits, vegetables, and superfoods (think chia, flax, and more) they need while keeping the flavors kid-friendly.

On-the-Go Nutrition
While I do my best to plan balanced meals while we’re home—whether that’s grabbing a Little Spoon Plate out of the freezer or cooking up a meal for the whole family—things become more challenging when we’re rushing out the door. Those busy days are typically when my bag gets filled with processed snacks. Though I don’t love serving them to my toddler, it’s been our easiest option to avoid a hangry toddler meltdown. But now, with Little Spoon, there’s an option that is just as easy to grab but that I can actually feel good about giving to my toddler.

For fellow parents of picky toddlers and young kids, you probably aren’t going to get your kid to chow down on a bag of carrots at the playground. But a Smoothie that contains kale and peas is giving just the same nutritional boost that a bag of veggies would.
Little Spoon Smoothies are 100 percent organic and are made without preservatives, additives, or artificial sugar. I definitely cannot say the same for the majority of what’s in our current snack drawer. Beyond the clean ingredients, these Smoothies have hidden veggies and superfoods and are made with unique ingredients like purple carrot, tahini, and sunflower butter, just to name a few.
When I give my own smoothies a vegetable boost, it’s usually with a pretty basic addition like a handful of spinach or a scoop of frozen cauliflower. I’m impressed by the Little Spoon ingredients. It’s motivating me to get more creative when it comes to my own smoothies.
I’m always trying to introduce new flavors to my child, and Smoothies are such an easy way to do it. I fully admit that these Smoothies sound great for my toddler, but I’d happily drink them as well. Some flavors include Cookies + Cream, Purple Carrot Acai Bowl, and Sweet Potato Carrot Cake. Yum. And yes, all of those flavors are made with just fruit, veggies, and superfoods.
Making Mom Life Easier
As a busy parent with a million things on my mind, I’m happy to stock my fridge with these Smoothies, as it gives me one less thing to worry about. I know my toddler will be well fed at snack time and will be enjoying a nutritious snack that won’t lead to a dreaded sugar crash, whether we’re out running errands, at the playground, or rushing off to preschool. I don’t have to ask myself if my child had any vegetables or fruit that day. If she had a Smoothie, I know she’s gotten some good nutrition in her.

In our house, Little Spoon is a brand we’ve come to know and love. I use the Babyblends with my baby and the Plates with my toddler, and I’m so happy to be adding the Smoothies to our daily routine. While I hope that my picky eater’s habits will change over time—and I’m confident that they will—I’m happy to know that even with a picky palate, nutritional needs are being met without a struggle, thanks to the addition of Smoothies.
