What Our Editors Are Most Excited for Their Kids to Watch on Disney+

There was little doubt that Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, would be a success, but since it was released on November 12, we haven’t stopped talking about it around the office. And it’s not just us; a quick scroll through our feeds and all the other mamas, papas, and kiddos are finding a ton of joy diving into all that Disney+ has to offer.

From the vaulted Disney classics to new exclusive streaming shows, Disney+ has something for everyone. We polled our editors and are sharing what we’re most excited for our own little ones to watch. The Disney love is strong!

Growing up in California, I visited Disneyland dozens of times as a little girl. With my love of Disney starting at such an early age and feeling so magical, one of the things I’ve been most excited about as a mom is sharing these movies and moments with my daughter Margot. With Disney+, I’m most looking forward to experiencing some of my favorite classics like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Peter Pan together.

I can’t wait for my little guy to watch Frozen. I’m almost embarrassed to admit that we might be the only family in the world who has never seen it. My son loves music, and I keep hearing how he’ll love Frozen, so with Disney+, we’re going to dive in soon. And I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of looking forward to seeing what it’s all about as well!

I’m excited for when Millie is a little older and we can watch the Disney movies I grew up watching (most looking forward to introducing her to my favorites: Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King). I have such nice memories of Disney movies from my own childhood, and I hope Millie experiences the same joy from them. I’m also excited for the Lizzie McGuire reboot, but Millie is only 5 months old, so I’ll probably have to watch that one alone!

Growing up, we, of course, watched all the Disney movies. My engineer dad is fascinated by animation, so watching the newest and latest was always a thing in our house. Now that he’s a grandpa, he got Disney+ for my boys and can’t wait to share it with them this weekend when he visits. Because of our affection for the art of animation, my kids have mostly seen (and love) all the classics, most of which we own – The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Frozen, and Moana. My oldest is pumped to watch the Toy Story series, the Monsters Inc. series, Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, Zooptopia, and Up again, as those are his favorites. I’m excited to introduce my dad to newer ones he hasn’t yet seen, like Coco, Inside Out, and The Incredibles. And after the kids go to bed, I’m looking forward to digging into the Avengers – as a big fan of DC superheroes, I never gave Marvel universe a chance, but now there’s no excuse.

It was never a question of if we were getting Disney+ in our house, it was just a question of when. I’m a confessed Disnerd, so I knew we’d want to have the Disney vault movies available to stream (even though we already owned quite a few). Since we downloaded Disney+, my 7-year-old animal-lover has been enjoying the DisneyNature movies and my 4-year-old is now The Descendents’ biggest fan (I’ll admit the music is darn catchy). But the sleeper hit for me was discovering Disney+ has so many nostalgic movies I loved as a kid! I can’t wait to introduce my girls to Flight of the Navigator, The (original) Parent Trap, and The Apple Dumpling Gang.

My little guy is still too young to fully appreciate Disney+, but I’m excited for us to have something to connect over when it comes to screen time! I love Disney movies, and us being able to watch them together — and truly enjoy it — will hopefully create really great memories.
