I always feel like a new woman when spring rolls around, and I’m not the only one. There’s just something about those first rays of sunshine on your face and a sweet temp of 65 degrees—especially when coupled with upcoming holidays like Easter and Mother’s Day. But after months of indoor activities, some of us need a refresher on how to take full advantage of the nice weather before the scorching summer heat begins. There are tons of fun spring activities for littles, and we’ve cultivated a list with the perfect vibes for this season.

There are many families who celebrate spring holidays with special outdoor events or who prefer to make the most of the nice weather by spending weekends outside as much as possible. This list is a collection of ideas ranging from new ways to utilize toys to activities that allow your whole family to relish in the springtime magic. Here are our top five ways to entertain your kids this spring!

Spring Activities to Keep Your Kids Entertained

1. Get creative with their toys

Using your kids’ toys in new and imaginative ways is a great way to get outside without needing to come up with extravagant ideas. Our family has been obsessed with Melissa & Doug toys since our oldest could crawl because of how wonderful they are for building kids’ creativity. Taking toys out of their usual environment encourages kids to play with them in entirely new ways.

For example, move a small table to the front yard, set up the Melissa & Doug Slice & Stack Sandwich Counter, and let them pretend they’re selling goodies to your neighbors. Or if your kiddos are like mine and love to copy mom, visit a local coffee shop with outdoor seating and bring the Wooden Work & Play Desktop Activity Board so they can pretend they’re “working” while sipping on some frothed milk. If you plan on spending a spring holiday at your local park, take the Let’s Explore Flower Gardening Play Set so your littles can pretend to plant flowers with their cousins. There are so many great ways to use the toys your littles already know and love!

2. Visit your local arboretum/botanical garden

One of our yearly traditions is to visit the arboretum during the springtime for picnics and nature walks. Our 2.5-year-old is fascinated with nature and loves identifying the different plants and bugs we find. You can even bring a list with photos of different flowers you know will be at the arboretum (you can usually find this information on their website) and turn your visit into a floral treasure hunt.

3. Use nature as your art canvas

It’s easy to create beautiful artwork when you use the tools nature provides like leaves, flowers, nuts, berries, and other items. Locate them in your own backyard or take your littles on a walk to seek them out. There are so many great crafty ways to utilize your nature finds; here are some of our favorites:

4. Build a kid-sized garden

Involving your little one in gardening is a fun way to encourage their motor skills and get them passionate about nature. This activity will require lots of patience on your part if your child is on the younger side. However, toddlers are a lot more capable of participating in complex tasks than we realize—especially when they feel they’re heavily involved in the decision-making process. Allow them to pick out the seeds or small plants they want in their garden, the colors of the rocks, and any decorative elements they want to add.

5. Bake yummy treats when going outside isn’t possible

As we all know, April showers bring May flowers. Keeping a few indoor activities on deck will come in handy for those rainy days. Plus, it’s allergy season, and outdoor play isn’t always possible if your little one struggles with the sniffles. Baking is a fun and engaging way to keep your littles entertained, but a few of the activities mentioned above can also be brought inside!
