Following the recall message published on Wegmans’ website, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a “public health alert” for these frozen chicken nuggets “to ensure that consumers are aware that this product should not be consumed.” The statement further claimed, “A recall was not requested because the product is no longer available for purchase.”
“FSIS was notified of the issue after Wegmans received multiple consumer complaints of bone fragments in the frozen fully cooked breaded chicken breast nugget product,” the alert explained. “There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider.”
The affected frozen chicken nuggets were “produced solely for Wegmans Food Markets and distributed to retail locations in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.,” the FSIS statement said.
What Should You Do If You Have the Recalled Wegmans Chicken Nuggets?
The FSIS statement urged consumers who have purchased the Wegmans Chicken Breast Nuggets to not consume the product. Instead, they should throw the bag away or return it to its place of purchase. The recall statement on the Wegmans website further explains that customers may return all affected products for a full refund.
“Consumers and members of the media with questions about the public health alert can contact Wegmans Food Markets at 1-855-934-3663 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET.,” the FSIS alert stated.
