Santa really better check his list twice this year, because an uber popular kids toy was just recalled: the Yoto Mini Speakers. On December 12, Yoto announced that it was recalling over 250,000 Yoto Mini Speakers due to the risk of the lithium battery overheating and catching fire. According to the recall notification from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, Yoto has received nine reports from U.S. consumers and three from a U.K. consumer of the speaker overheating or melting. The good news is that no injuries have been reported and Yoto Mini 2024 editions are NOT affected. However, you do need to check your serial number to see if your Yoto Mini is part of the recall and, if so, stop using it and order a battery replacement kit ASAP. Here’s what to know about the Yoto Mini recall.

Which Yoto Players Are Part of the Recall?

Only the Yoto Mini Speakers manufactured between 2021 and 2023 are affected by this recall—2024 editions of the Yoto Mini Speakers are NOT affected. However, you’ll still want to check your serial number if you’re unsure when your Yoto Mini was manufactured. The 14-digit serial number is on the base of the unit.

According to the company, the affected models are the Yoto Mini with the SKU: PRPLXX00860. The recalled Yoto Mini was sold with a charging cable included but no adaptor or charger. According to the company, the affected units generally have a serial number starting with 1FE-8FE. These Yoto Mini players were previously recalled in April 2024 for the same reason.

Yoto Minis (2024 Edition) are unaffected and do not require a Battery Replacement Kit. Unaffected products have a 14-digit Serial Number that either:

  • starts with 9FE, or;
  • starts with AFE, BFE, CFE, etc. going through the letters of the alphabet, or;
  • starts with AVC, BVC, CVC, etc., going through the letters of the alphabet, or;
  • ends with a -H, or -H7, or -U, regardless of how it starts.

Again, you can find the 14-digit serial number on the base of the unit.

If you are unsure which edition you own, please contact Yoto Ltd. by email at [email protected].

The Mini Yoto Speakers were sold online at us.yotoplay.com, Amazon, Target, Maisonette, and in toy and gift stores nationwide from November 2021 through April 2024. Regular Yoto Players are not affected by this recall.

What Should You Do If Your Yoto Is Part of the Recall?

The report warns that “consumers should immediately stop using the recalled speakers, take them away from children and contact Yoto to receive a free battery replacement kit. Consumers should request the battery replacement kit even if they already received the smart cable in the April 2024 recall. Consumers should dispose of lithium-ion batteries in accordance with local and state regulations and not in the trash.”
