Attention parents: another recall alert has just hit the news, and it may be a product you have and use every day. On Thursday, December 19, reports began circulating that popular baby and kids brand Nuna has issued a voluntary recall for more than 600,000 models of their RAVA convertible car seat. According to the brand’s official website, RAVA car seats manufactured between July 16, 2016 and October 25, 2023 may include a design defect on the front harness adjuster button that could impact a child’s safety while riding in the seat.

The good news? Owners of the affected models may reach out to the company to receive corrected parts and instructions to ensure the car seat can continue to be used safely. Below, we’re breaking down everything parents need to know about the Nuna RAVA recall, including what to do if your car seat requires new parts to remain safe for your kiddos.

Which Nuna RAVA car seats are part of the recall?

Only Nuna RAVA convertible car seats manufactured between July 16, 2016 and October 25, 2023 are part of the brand’s voluntary recall. RAVAs created after October 25, 2023 are still safe to use. The following statement on Nuna’s official website explained the safety concern associated with these RAVA models and the reason for the voluntary recall.

“The defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, is a result of debris entering the area where the front harness adjuster button is located. The debris may cause the teeth of the adjuster mechanism to no longer properly clamp onto the adjuster strap, resulting in the harness no longer remaining tight. A loose harness may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash,” the message read.

What should I do if my Nuna RAVA is part of the recall?

“If your car seat’s harness is functioning properly and securing the occupant consistent with the existing instruction manual and labels, you may continue to use your car seat as directed,” the recall information on Nuna’s official website explained. The statement went on to explain that your car seat’s harness is functioning properly if you perform a Harness Function Test and your RAVA passes. Customers who have a Nuna RAVA convertible car seat that includes a manufacture date that is part of the recall will be eligible to receive a new seat pad, cleaning kit, and care instructions to ensure the car seat’s harness adjuster is kept clean and working properly.

“Customers who have registered and affected RAVA will receive two letters from Nuna by mail. The first letter will notify them of the recall, prompt them to confirm status, and provide instructions on how they can receive a new seat pad and cleaning kit. It will also show them how to test the car seat to ensure the harness is working properly. The second letter will notify owners when the seat pad and cleaning kit are available,” information on Nuna’s website explained.

Owners with an unregistered Nuna RAVA car seat should fill out a recall form on Nuna’s website or reach out to [email protected] or call 1-855-686-2891.
