Kylie Kelce is still keeping it real in her weekly podcast episodes of Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce. Her takes are so relatable to moms, like when she shared that sheâs not a fan of birthday parties for babies. Kylie Kelce shared a recent âtruth bombâ in her latest episode, âKylie on Ziplining in Stadiums, NFL Group Chats & Egg Freezing Reality with Kaylee Hartung.â Kylie Kelce said that her husband, Jason, sleeps through nighttime feeds during the newborn phase.
Before you gasp and say that Jason Kelce is a terrible partner, Kylie Kelce adds, âThatâs how I like it.â But would you do this? In the episode, Kylie breaks down how her and Jasonâs sleeping duties pan out. As a mom of two, I definitely get this tactic. My partner and I did the same thing. Read on and decide whether or not you would follow suit. Plus, five tips to keep you awake at night!
Nighttime With a Newborn as a First-Time Mom
If I had listened to this episode as a first-time mom or as my âpre-kidâ self, I probably would have gasped hearing that Kylie is OK with her partner sleeping while sheâs up in the middle of the night with a newborn.
When I was pregnant with my first child, my husband was the partner that said âweâ were pregnant. So, I took that as âweâ are also going to be up together in the middle of the night during feeds. We quickly learned that us staring at each other while I nursedâand while he awkwardly sat there yawningâwas nonetheless âpointlessâ for both of us (although, he did help with diaper changes.) We werenât really up for any type of conversation at 3 a.m. For us, it really only made sense to take turns being up with the baby when I started to integrate bottle feeds.
Nighttime Logistics With a Family
With a toddlerâor in Kylieâs case, toddler(s)âmanning the house becomes logistical. The Kelce family isnât a stranger to what teamwork looks like. In fact, the reason why Kylie prefers that Jason sleep through the night is because âHe needs sleep to be able to chase toddlers during the day so that I can continue to sit with a child.â Itâs very much a âdivide and conquerâ game plan.
Kylie outlined a long-winded list of what a typical day looks like for her and Jason. She and Jason are either âfilling up water bottles, opening bags of snacks, changing a newborn diaper, changing a âBennieâ diaper, feeding the baby, telling Wyatt to âPlease stop yelling,â picking up more packs of berries, washing âsaidâ berries, and arguing with children about how much more berries you can consume in one day.â This was so relatable to me that I thought, âIs Kylie Kelce reading my diary?â
I completely get the Kelce familyâs strategy. My husband and I did the very same thing after my second child was born. I would stay up with the baby, and my husband would focus on our eldest. My eldest son has the energy of a stallion, so making sure one of us didnât have the ânewborn hangoverâ was vital to keeping up with the whole family.
5 Things I Did to Stay Awake During the Newborn Phase
If youâre a first-time mom, in the same boat as Kylie Kelce, or just in dire need of sleep, staying wide-eyed during the newborn phase can be exhausting. Here are five personal things I did to stay awake while my partner slept during nighttime feedsâother than going on a nighttime shopping spree (IYKYK):

1. Drink Ice Water
Drinking an ice-cold glass of water can help you stay awake at night. Plus, postpartum moms need all the hydration they can get to fight postpartum fatigue, for breastfeeding moms to stay hydrated, and to properly recover. So donât forget to have your large water bottle right next to you while youâre up with the baby.
2. Have Podcasts Lined Up
Pop in your earbuds and have a list of your favorite podcasts ready, like Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce.
3. Read a Book
Iâm not going to lie, reading my Kindle at night was hit or miss. Sometimes, this would make me fall asleep, but itâs totally worth it if youâre in the middle of a plot twist.
4. Catch Up on a Show
Netflix, Hulu, and Max might just be your best friends during the newborn phase. Not sure what to watch right now? Donât worry, weâve got you covered with the best new TV shows to watch right now.
5. Leave a Night Light On
It can be tempting to sit in complete darkness with how tired you are, but having at least a soft night light on can help you and your baby stay awake during a nighttime feed.
