As a mom, sometimes the biggest rush of the day I have is when I snooze my alarm a little too many times in the morning and have to quickly usher my easily distracted boys out the door in order to make the bus. But what if I told you that you could get that sweet feeling of victory with this simple word game you can only play once a day? Enter Wordle.

If you haven’t heard of Wordle yet, let me share the basics. Wordle is a word guessing game you cannot play more than once every 24 hours. Players get six chances to guess a five-letter word. The game gives you clues by way of color coding. Yellow=right letter, wrong spot. Green=right letter, right spot. Wordle was created by a software engineer named Josh Wardle, who recently sold to The New York Times for a price in the low seven-figures. Wardle originally created it for his partner who loves word games (Bananagrams, anyone?). It has now become popular, with millions of players worldwide.

And one of the best parts is that players can share their victory on their socials or text without giving away any hints to another player.

Let’s face it, over the last few years, many of us have developed a pretty short attention span for our regular games on our phone. I am not a huge gamer, but I have a collection of board games and puzzle apps on my phone. Although these games are pretty simple in appearance, they still lacked the global community and daily satisfaction Wordle gives.

If you are just as obsessed with Wordle and want to try something else, play these games next.

Created by a coder named QNTM, this game resembles Wordle with a similar five-letter-word, grid setup, and color-coded clues, but instead of one possible answer, it has over 2,315 possibilities. So how do you play?

With Absurdle, you have a grid setup just like Wordle, but each guess you make helps the AI narrow down the potential words to one. As you guess, letters get blocked off like in Wordle, except you have to keep guessing until you can figure out the answer with the limited letters that aren’t marked off. You can even choose a random answer if you need help, and then guess away to your heart’s content.

Murdle is a cross between Wordle and Hangman that gives you even higher stakes. You can guess as much as you want until you get 10 unique letters wrong and die. It sounds harsh, but when you are playing to win in any Hangman-type game, these are the stakes that make things a little more interesting. Fear not: Although this version may feel impossible, the game will change the color of the tiles so you can narrow down the answer.

This addicting version is great for Taylor Swift fans who want to test out their guessing skills. You have six tries, and similar to Wordle, the tiles will change color to show how close you are to the correct answer. It was originally created by Hannah Park but was modified by the Holy Swift Podcast.

Lewdle is Wordle but with lewd words. Just like Wordle, users have six tries to guess a five-letter dirty word—and, maybe surprisingly, it’s harder than you think! Like Taylordle or other iterations, it can seem helpful to have a themed list of words to choose from, but this one definitely takes some creativity. Be sure to play this game after bedtime so your little ones aren’t crawling all over you peeking at your phone (and inevitably asking, “Mom, what does Titty mean?” 🤣).

Wizarding Wordle

Calling all Potterheads! The super-popular site has launched their own version of Wordle—aptly called Wizarding Wordle—to feature popular Wizarding World phrases like “Draco,” “Lumos,” and “House.” With spells, character names, locations, Hogwarts terms, and so much more, any Harry Potter fan will love this online game (If you’re also a fan of Lord of the Rings, you can play Lordle of the Rings, too!).

If you are looking for a more challenging grid game, look no further. Primel is another daily game similar to Wordle but with prime numbers. You have six tries to guess the correct prime number and get it in the right spot as the color-coded clues help nudge you in the right direction.

I have to add that while I love Wordle, this version is such a great option for those who love math.
