I’m a sucker for rom-coms, and 95 percent of the time, it’s the genre you can find me reading. What draws me in, you ask? The quick-witted banter, the enemies-to-lovers and friends-to-lovers tropes, and the fact that I can, for the most part, bank on a happy ending (thank you, rom-com gods). It’s why I love popular rom-com and contemporary romance queens like Abby Jimenez and Emily Henry—and so many others. After reading one of their books, it’s a delightful treat to indulge in the rest of their series, too. And one author who recently gave me a book hangover, feel-good feeling with her storylines is B.K. Borison.
As of 2021, Borison has published six novels. Her latest books are due to hit the shelves this year, with And Now, Back to You, which was released on February 24, and Grim Tidings debuting September 15, 2026 (I can’t wait!). Plus, Borison has even bigger news: her first novel in the Heartstrings series, First-Time Caller, is getting its very own book-to-movie adaptation. I’ve read all of Borison’s books to date. So, it’s only fitting that I give her novels a proper review. Here, I’m ranking all of the B.K. Borison books, sharing whether or not you should read them in order, and why you should add them to your TBR list. Happy reading!

B.K. Borison’s book series
Before I dive deep, it’s important to know what book series by B.K. Borison is currently out on the shelves. Below, I’ve listed them in chronological order from when they were first published.

Should I read B.K. Borison’s books in order?
The Lovelight series is a series of interconnected standalones. While it’s not an absolute requirement to read them in order, I would recommend it since Borison strategically (and subtly) introduces the following book’s main characters in the previous book. And personally, the series only gets better as you read it in order.
For the Ghosted series and the Heartstrings series, I can’t say for certain that readers will have to read them in sequence, given that only the first books are out. However, I gather that they, too, are a series of interconnected standalones. From what I know about the plot of Good Spirits, I’d say readers may have more context of the storyline in Grim Tidings if Good Spirits is read first. And as for the First-Time Caller series, I think it would make sense to read First-Time Caller before you pick up And Now, Back to You, since the main characters are so heavily mentioned in the first book.

Here, I’m ranking all of Borison’s books from least to most favorite. Despite the rankings, I have to add, all of her novels are ones that I recommend reading!
6. Lovelight Farms
Stella Bloom is desperate to save the beloved Christmas tree farm from her childhood—so desperate, in fact, that she entered an Instagram competition to win $10,000. The one problem? She has to make Lovelight Farms seem like the romantic holiday destination, and to do so, she needs a fake boyfriend. Enter her best friend, Luka Peters, who gladly agrees to the challenge. But when lines start to blur, Stella suddenly isn’t sure what’s real anymore.

As the first novel in the Lovelight series, Lovelight Farms helped me understand who the characters are in the small town of Inglewood. The plot drew me in within the first few chapters with the main character needing to find a fake boyfriend in order to win a social media contest. And when her best friend is her best option, I wanted to know how it played out. However, after getting to know more of the history between Stella and Luka, I couldn’t help but think that it was too obvious that they were more than just friends. Given that I read it during the holiday season, it gave me all the cozy vibes, which is exactly what I was looking for.
5. In the Weeds
Blogger Evelyn St. James and Beckett Porter stumbled into each other’s lives during one unforgettable weekend in Maine. After Evelyn shows up to interview Stella Bloom, one of her contestants for a social media contest she’s throwing—on the same farm Beckett works at, unknowingly—it leads Evelyn to make a swift exit out of the town of Inglewood. But in search of the last place that made her happy, Evelyn returns. The question is, is the happiness she’s longing for a life with Beckett?

While I was reading Lovelight Farms, I immediately wanted to know more about Evelyn and Beckett and what exactly happened during their weekend fling. The quick mention of their mysterious relationship had me excited to find out that they were the central couple in In the Weeds. Combined with Beckett’s good-natured presence (yet stubborn personality) and Evie’s longing for connection, I was definitely rooting for the two. This novel had the right amount of tug-and-pull in their relationship, which had me wanting to know the final outcome.
4. Mixed Signals
The dating scene is a complete dud for Inglewood’s favorite baker, Layla Dupree. So much so that the latest date left her stranded at dinner. But then enters Caleb Alvarez, the town’s local, and might I add, handsome teacher, who happens to be at the right place at the right time. After Layla breaks down all the terrible dates she’s been on, she and Caleb come up with the perfect way to end her terrible streak: one month of dates with no-strings attached.

Layla and Caleb had me invested with their quirky personalities and loveable, awkward moments. And the tension between the two only leaves me to describe their relationship as “hot.” Borison perfectly gives readers insight into the lives of each character, making you feel like you know them, too. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the characters and the storyline.
3. Business Casual
Free-spirited tattoo artist Nova Porter and investment banker Charlie Milford are total opposites. Their opposites-attract chemistry has been brewing for years, and they find themselves catching a feel when Charlie comes to Inglewood to help his sister, Stella, on her farm. In order to get each other out of their system, the two agree to settle for a one-night stand. But what happens when the plan backfires? They’re not so sure they can keep it business casual.

Out of all of the books in the Lovelight series, I felt most connected to Nova and Charlie. Their characters are complete opposites, yet they’re both so relatable. Business Casual also gives more depth into the characters with themes that some readers can identify with—imposter syndrome, perfectionism, familial relationships, and even the representation of ADHD. Plus, if you love the steamy factor, Business Casual gives the most spice out of all four books in the series.
2. Good Spirits
It’s business as usual for the Ghost of Christmas Past, Nolan Callahan. Haunt his next assignment, find out why they’re a terrible person, and move on to the next. But when his assignment is Harriet York, who doesn’t have a terrible history at all, it leaves them working as a pair to find out why they were even put together in the first place.

The timing of when I read Good Spirits perfectly aligned with the holiday season. It’s definitely a must-read in the wintertime, and if you’re looking for a book to put you in the holiday spirit (pun intended). Nolan and Harriet’s relationship gives: Molly Jensen and Sam Wheat from the 1990 movie Ghost, meet Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Their chemistry has you wondering why they fit so perfectly when one character is dead, and the other is alive. I love how Borison combines mystery into this romance novel, too. Good Spirits quickly became an editor-favorite, and it’s one worth reading if you haven’t already.
1. First-Time Caller
Single mom Lucie Stone isn’t in need of romance in her life until her daughter calls into a radio show asking for dating advice. Lucie’s story has the entire town of Baltimore wanting to help her find true love. Find out if Lucie will find her perfect match in this Sleepless in Seattle-esque rom-com.

For all the rom-com fans who identify as a “Sleepless in Seattle-girly,” First-Time Caller is one to add to your TBR list ASAP. Set in the same city Borison is from, I could tell how much First-Time Caller is a love letter to the city of Baltimore—perfectly romanticizing it. And the on-and-off radio chemistry between the main characters is magnetic. I didn’t want this one to end. I’d give this one a six out of five stars rating if I could. I highly recommend reading this one as an audiobook. I felt like I was actually listening to a radio talk show!

B.K. Borison fans can get excited for what’s to come in her series. Both the First-Time Caller and the Good Spirits series are gaining new books to their collections.
