I’m so grateful my best friend introduced me to the relaxing bliss of a mani-pedi back in college; an hour of me-time cut off from the rest of the world to chat, read a magazine, or watch whatever happened to be on the salon TV.
This year I have been missing the respite of a salon but decided to pour over new nail styles to see what I could recreate in my own home. I don’t have any fancy tools, so I checked to see what I could substitute (bobby pins can help make great polka dots!), and what new tool I might want to invest in. Here are five of my favorite holiday looks and some of the tools for doing it at home.
1. Nail Color Combos
This is the easiest look of all because it’s not about design, it’s just about the colors. You can mix and match complementary or contrasting colors however you like, giving you infinite combinations. Plus, investing in a handy tool like The Poppy below can make sure both your hands look fab!
2. Gold Accents
A quick and easy way to make your hands look holiday-ready is gold. This look is achieved with strips (you can use vinyl) and dots (you can use a bobby pin to make the small dots).
3. Glitter Ombre
This feels like it appeals to my clumsiness as a nail tech. It’s a beautiful and simple look to achieve.
4. Festive Stickers
When in doubt about my artistic ability (which is usually), I turn to stickers. They’re easy to apply, relatively cheap, and really dress up your look.
5. Green and Gold
My favorite color combo in the world (and also my wedding colors) is gold and green. And this year’s new green hues are so appropriately festive. Whatever pattern is within your capabilities, it will look gorgeous!
