Some of us love them, some of us can’t stand them, and most of us just want to experience a day in the life of a Kardashian. Whatever your personal thoughts may be on the prominent family, we all have to admit that they know a thing or two about the beauty industry. Granted, it often seems like their beauty routines are unattainable for the average Jane. That’s why I was blown away to hear that one of Khloe Kardashian’s acclaimed beauty hacks can be purchased for less than my favorite Starbucks order.

I’m talking about the healing ointment that’s been around since before the Great Depression: Aquaphor. That’s right, when asked what one of her favorite beauty hacks was during a Hot Ones interview, Khloe spilled that this is one of her favorite products and she uses it daily. Amidst conversations about her immaculate pantry and her size-inclusive clothing line, Khloe provided a tiny golden nugget of beauty knowledge that we can all afford. So, let’s get into it. Here, we’re answering all your burning questions about Khloe Kardashian’s $5 beauty secret—read on for more!

What is Aquaphor?

Aquaphor is a multipurpose, over-the-counter healing ointment that was invented all the way back in 1925 with its primary costumers being doctors, pharmacists, and hospitals. It wasn’t until 1982 that Aquaphor was actually sold straight to consumers for personal use. Since then, a whole line of products has been created under the ointment umbrella, all with a similar purpose: protecting your skin. While back in the day it was meant to protect minor wounds (which it still is today), there are now more specialized products.

How does Khloe use it?

During her time on Hot Ones—while fighting back tears from the YouTube show’s hot sauce challenge—Khloe spoke about some of her former beauty-centric words of wisdom:

All the makeup in the world can’t make up for a good skincare routine.

When asked to give one piece of attainable advice for a well-rounded skincare routine, Khloe shared that every evening she puts Aquaphor around her eyes to help prevent the appearance of wrinkles. And Khloe’s not the only celebrity who’s sung Aquaphor’s praises. In an interview with Elle from a few years back, Beyoncé also said she used Aquaphor as part of her nighttime routine.

What are the other uses for Aquaphor?

Reducing the appearance of wrinkles isn’t all this little cream is good for, though! Aquaphor dubs its healing ointment as the “one essential solution for many skincare needs.” It is the perfect solution for protecting minor cuts and wounds, but is also a go-to for moisturizing dry skin, relieving dry and cracked skin, and providing protection from the wind and cold weather that dries us out.

The Aquaphor brand also has other products available for specific uses. They have a whole line specifically for babies, including a diaper rash cream and paste, a body wash and shampoo combo, and a healing balm perfect for moisturizing and soothing dry skin. And the best part is that all of the products have rave reviews from other mamas.

My personal favorite way to use Aquaphor? When the temperature drops outside and my lips become as dry as the Sahara Desert, I like to put Aquaphor on my lips each night. The next morning, I wake up with hydrated lips.

While their original ointment is great for the times of the year when my lips get extremely dry and cracked, they also have a whole line of lip care products for daily use. Ranging from lip repair to lip protectant with SPF, your lips will never feel more taken care of with these Aquaphor products.

Being a long time fan of their products, I’m super intrigued by their ointment body spray meant to not only relieve dry skin, but also leave skin glowing and radiant. The reviews speak for themselves, but I can’t wait to get my hands on this product and test it for myself. Plus, I don’t feel too guilty trying a new beauty product like this out of the blue because it’s less than $12!
