How I’m Getting the Best Sleep of My Life (Even When My Kids Wake Up)

I used to think that once my kids got older, my sleep would magically return to normal. Spoiler: It hasn’t. Even now, I rarely make it through the night without at least one “Mom, I need water!” or “I have to pee!” wake-up call. At this point, I’ve accepted that eight solid hours of uninterrupted sleep just isn’t realistic in this stage of motherhood. What I haven’t accepted, though, is waking up every morning feeling like I’ve been run over by a truck.
Between the middle-of-the-night interruptions, the mental load that keeps my brain buzzing until midnight, and the general exhaustion of parenting, I felt like I was never truly recharging. No matter how early I went to bed, I still woke up groggy, stiff, and foggy. That’s why I decided to focus less on chasing uninterrupted sleep and more on making the hours I do get count.
And that’s where Ritual’s Magnesium+ comes in. As a longtime fan of Ritual (shout out to their Prenatal Multivitamin, Women’s Multivitamin, Stress Relief, and Essential Protein Daily Shake), I sighed with relief when they announced this latest release, which is focused on supporting a better night’s sleep. Since adding it into my nightly routine, I’ve noticed a real shift in how rested, calm, and recharged I feel—even on the nights when my sleep is broken up. And that’s a HUGE win in my book. I’m not one to gatekeep, so let’s get into my review of Ritual’s new Magnesium+ supplement after trying it consistently for a couple of weeks.

My 5-year-old has had a personal vendetta against sleeping through the night since birth. These days, the excuses range from “I need one more hug” to “I had a bad dream!” All of which guarantees that a full, uninterrupted night’s sleep is out of the question. But since introducing Magnesium+, I’ve started feeling more rested in the morning—even with middle-of-the-night wakeups. That’s because the formula is science-backed to support quality sleep.*
With magnesium to help relax the body and Tart Cherry to ease mental fatigue (those sleepy girl mocktail recipes use tart cherry juice for a reason!), it helps me get the most out of the sleep I do manage to string together. It’s helping me optimize those precious hours, so I wake up feeling more human—even after a long night of kid interruptions.*

Even before I became a mom, I struggled with turning off my thoughts before bed. Add in the mental load of parenting, and my brain often feels like an internet browser with 47 tabs open. Did I sign that permission slip? What’s on tomorrow’s meeting agenda? Did I remember to put the ice packs in the freezer? By the time I finally get into bed, I’m still buzzing with thoughts that keep me awake.
Since I started sipping Magnesium+ at night, I’ve noticed it’s much easier to quiet my mind. Magnesium supports stress relief and mind relaxation, making it possible to wind down without my usual crutch of “Sleepy ASMR” YouTube videos. Instead of tossing and turning, I’ve found myself drifting off more quickly and waking up less mentally drained and groggy.*
They say trauma is stored in the hips—well, my hips are storing trauma and the physical pain that comes with a 30-pound preschooler who still loves being carried around. Add in hours of sitting cross-legged on the playroom floor and chasing two kids down after a burst of the zoomies, and my body often feels like it’s run a marathon by bedtime.
On top of easing mental fatigue, Tart Cherry can also help support muscle recovery, while magnesium supports muscle and nerve function. Between these two ingredients, I’ve noticed I don’t wake up as stiff and achy as I used to. For a mom who’s constantly in motion, it feels like a reset button for my body as well as my mind. I also appreciate that magnesium is clinically studied to help ease period cramps and pregnancy leg cramps (something I definitely wish I had while I was pregnant). And those benefits aren’t just exclusive to women because Ritual designed this product for anyone looking to improve mind and body relaxation. Even my husband started adding Magnesium+ to his evening routine after hearing me yap about how helpful it’s been for me.*

One of my favorite parts of adopting it into my bedtime routine, other than my phenomenal sleep? Magnesium+ actually feels like a treat to drink. My kids go to bed early, which means that my husband and I usually get a little downtime to ourselves before lights out. We’ll often make a snack or mocktail together, and now Magnesium+ has become part of that ritual.
The sugar-free berry drink mix (made with a blend of natural strawberry and raspberry flavors) mixes seamlessly with water or juice in seconds. Some nights I stir it into a glass of water, other nights we’ll make our own version of the notorious “sleepy girl mocktail” (the sleepy mom mocktail, if you will) with sparkling coconut water and a splash of tropical fruit juice. Either way, it’s quick to make, easy on the stomach, and something I look forward to drinking every night.
As moms, we know sleep is precious and often out of our control—but how rested we feel the next day is something we can influence. Adding Ritual’s Magnesium+ to my evenings has helped me maximize my sleep quality, calm my mind, and recover from the nonstop physical demands of parenting. Even if my kids aren’t sleeping through the night, I know I’m getting the most out of the rest that I do get.*
