Some of my fondest childhood memories include coming home from school, grabbing a Lunchable and Capri Sun from the fridge, and munching while watching Cartoon Network classics like Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls. Looking back, I cringe at the contents of ’90s and early ’00s snacks and cartoons—both rather questionable for growing children. However, the nostalgia I, and many other ’90s kids, feel when reminiscing on a childhood with no internet and minimal supervision is rather special.
I’ve often considered how my kids can have the same wistful childhood I had but edited to modern times. Yes, the ’90s snacks and shows were fun (and maybe a bit addictive), but now, we as a society are more conscious about what our kids consume—and rightfully so. So, how do we find a balance between providing our kids with idyllic memories to look back on while staying health conscious? Well, turns out Little Spoon’s new line of kids’ Snacks and Lunchers has achieved every ’90s kid’s childhood dreams.
Old-School Snacks, New-School Standards
Little Spoon has been an editor-favorite baby and kids’ food subscription service for years, so we could not contain our excitement when we heard they were releasing two new product lines inspired by our childhood favorites. Getting toddlers and kids to choose a well-balanced meal over their beloved snacks is an everyday struggle. Little Spoon easily solves that problem by combining nutritious recipes and mouth-watering flavors in their biggest launch yet. Their current meal lineup includes Babyblends (purees for 4-11 month olds), Biteables (meals for 9-16 month olds), Plates (meals for 2+ year olds), Smoothies (for 2+ year olds), and now their newest additions: Lunchers and Snacks (for 3+ year olds).
Lunchers: Quick grab-and-go lunches
Lunchers are healthy, build-it-yourself lunches made for kiddos 3 years old and up. There are four different Lunchers options: Easy Cheesy Pizza, PB Jammies, Brunch Lunch, and Chicken Dunkers (and Chicken Nachos coming soon!). These on-the-go lunches are perfect for busy families that need to grab a quick, nutritious meal from the fridge that’s ready to eat anywhere. They’re super easy to assemble so no need to worry about hangry little humans that have no patience.
Since microwaving them isn’t necessary, Lunchers are also perfect for school. Making my preschooler’s lunch every single day with only cold items is probably the most annoying part of the school season. But Lunchers provides me with a high-quality alternative that takes zero effort on my part. The craziest part is that each meal has 10+ grams of protein and is packed with hidden veggies and superfoods—literally the best of both worlds.
Snacks: Junk-free snacking
Little Spoon’s brand-new snack line includes Veggie Loops, Dipsters, Fruit Rippers, and Oat Bakes made for all ages (adults included 😉). They’re inspired by nostalgic snacks from the ’90s and early ’00s but totally reimagined with clean ingredients and superfoods. Even our editors without kids are itching to get their hands on these because they instantly transport you to a simpler time. Here’s a quick run-down of each craveable snack:
Think: baked chips but better. Veggie Loops are baked, chickpea-based crunchy snacks in a fun loop shape. With three different flavors—Mac + Cheesy, Pancake Party, and Pizzalicious—you may have to break up sibling squabbles when there’s only one bag left. Veggie Loops are made with avocado oil, 2-3 grams of protein per serving, hidden veggies (such as carrots, spinach and pumpkin), and are gluten-free.
Dipsters are a dippable classic containing an oat-based dip with hidden veggies such as carrots, butternut squash, purple sweet potato, spinach and more. They come in two flavors: Brownie Batter Dip + Cookies and Confetti Cake Dip + Pretzels. I may have to keep a couple of these to myself because those just sound mouthwatering. Plus, the dips are made with organic oats, sweetened with maple syrup, and have 2 grams of protein per pack.
Made with the good kind of sweet, Fruit Rippers are peelable fruit snacks that feature two flavors: Strawberry Smash and Mighty Mango. These are made with simple ingredients and sweetened with real fruit only. You won’t find any artificial flavors or colorings, and these are also gluten-free.
These soft-baked, oat-based bars have hidden veggies, superfoods, and 3 grams of protein. We’re an oat-obsessed family so we have a hard time picking a favorite between Chocolate Chip, Blueberry Muffin, and Apple Pie. They all contain a blend of chia, flax, and hemp seeds, which make them a great source of energy for littles and a quick breakfast option.
