Honest review: my experience with the bbhugme pregnancy pillow

Now, there’s simply no denying the obvious: This is an expensive pregnancy pillow. With so many options available (a bulk of them under $100), it can be hard to justify what could make it worth shelling out over $200 for this one. But having tested it for a few months now, I can attest to the difference I feel in this versus my cheaper alternative.

For one, the versatility is something that makes me feel like I’ll use this pillow far past pregnancy. At night, I wrap the pillow in a U-shape through my legs, hugging my back and belly. I’ve also gotten a lot of daytime use from the pillow. I work from home, and as I’ve gotten more uncomfortable, that work sometimes happens in bed. I’ve used the bbhugme behind my back or across my front as a workaround desk for my computer to sit on top of. In fact, it’s such a versatile product that my mother-in-law ended up picking one up for herself after seeing mine.

The cooling factor is also incredibly helpful. One of the many not-so-sexy parts of pregnancy is night sweats. During the third trimester, they’ve been out of control. My last pregnancy pillow was comfy and cozy but also basically a heat bomb. The more breathable microbeads make this feel constantly cool in a way that’s incredibly refreshing.

While this doesn’t have any aspect that you can stick in the fridge ahead of time, the microbead material does make the interior pillow feel nice and cool each time you use it. This helps the pillow feel more breathable at night, especially if you find yourself easily overheated.

Washable cover

Unlike many pregnancy pillows that come as a pre-filled cushion, the inner pillow and cover are separate from each other. The cover is machine washable and can simply be laid out to dry.

The flexibility and versatility of the pillow support your back, front, hips, head, or wherever else you need it. That makes it easy to use both during and after pregnancy.

Is the bbhugme pregnancy pillow worth it?

The price point of the bbhugme pregnancy pillow makes it an investment. But, in my opinion, the investment has been worth the price. The versatility of the product has made it useful both during the end of my second trimester and up to now as I’m nearing the end of my third (and getting more and more uncomfortable). I use it during the night and day. I’m certainly getting my money’s worth as far as how often it gets used.

Certainly, if you only plan on using a pregnancy pillow during pregnancy, there are other, cheaper options you may want to consider. For someone that just wants it for their third trimester and then plans to get rid of it, a less expensive pregnancy pillow can likely fit the bill just fine.

However, if, like me, you plan on using your pregnancy pillow as a body pillow postpartum and beyond, the investment of the bbhugme begins to be more worth the price you’re paying. Unlike one of the wedge pillows or a U- or C-shaped pregnancy pillow that takes up quite a bit of real estate on the bed, the bbhugme is a long, straight line that can easily be kept behind or in front of your regular pillows when not in use. It looks cute and never stands out as a cumbersome addition to the bedtime routine. So, if you’re in the market for a pregnancy pillow that will work wonders during pregnancy and beyond, the investment of the bbhugme may just be worth it.
