DÔEN is one of my absolute favorite clothing brands, and this program makes the process of switching out seasonal pieces easier than ever.
What is the DÔEN’s “Hand Me DÔEN” Resale Program?
In 2022, the clothing brand introduced Hand Me DÔEN, a program designed to extend the lifecycle of their garments and support a more circular fashion economy. Basically, the program allows you to send in DÔEN pieces from past seasons. Then, DÔEN sends you a digital gift card to be used in their shop for the resell value of those items.
How It Works
The way you can sell through Hand Me DÔEN is simple. Here’s what the process looks like:
- Submit: Customers answer a few questions about the condition of the DÔEN items they wish to resell.
- Ship: They use a prepaid shipping label provided by DÔEN to send the items back to the company.
- Earn Credit: Once the items are received and approved, customers are given a digital gift card equivalent to the value of the submitted items, which can be used to purchase new or pre-loved items from DÔEN.
When you submit your items, you have the choice of looking back through past orders to select what items you wish to resell. Otherwise, you’ll need to search for the item by name and list the condition it’s in.
At submission, the brand will tell you exactly how much you can expect to receive in credit for a certain item, so there are no surprises on what you will be receiving. From there, simply send it back and wait to hear back from DÔEN on whether it was accepted.
These items are all sold online at Hand Me DÔEN events, which happen every few months. The brand will sell the items that have been sent in so others can shop the pre-loved clothing for themselves.
My Experience With DÔEN’s Resale Program
As someone who has collected quite a bit of DÔEN over the years and still shops their newer collections, I use Hand Me DÔEN as a way to fund my future purchases. Instead of spending money on newer items and keeping those I wasn’t wearing, I loved the idea that I could clear out my closet plus use the funds to purchase more from a brand I was already planning to shop from.
The process was incredibly straightforward. I put aside the items I planned to sell, marked what condition they were in, and used the pre-paid label to send them in. I heard back within a week from the company and was given a code to use as a gift card for a future purpose.
It is important to note that I have seen customers have their items rejected and sent back in the past. This has mainly come down to the condition of the item. Personally, I typically will only wash their items on a delicate cycle and hang them to dry. You’ll want to look out for any tears, holes, or stretching fabric that may disqualify your item before sending it in.
Would I Recommend Using the Resale Program?
So, who would I recommend this to? Well, first and foremost, it will work for you if you have extra DÔEN lying around in your closet plus want to continue shopping from the brand. Since only store credit is available, this isn’t a program you’ll want to use if you’d rather use the money you earn to shop at other brands.
If you would rather sell for cash as opposed to credit, there are other options you’ll want to consider. Resell sites like Poshmark, Mercari, or Vinted allow you to resell your items to other customers, with the sites taking a percentage of your sale. Additionally, there are dedicated Instagram pages and Facebook groups that allow you to Buy, Sell, or Trade your items, such as DÔEN BST & Chat.
But if you’re looking to clear out older bits from the brand in exchange for their newer pieces, their resell program is an incredibly easy one to use and keep the items in the community of major DÔEN fans.
