Watching my son try to use a fork or spoon is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. I know we parents say that often about our kids, but I love seeing his determination to pierce a noodle with a toddler-sized fork. When your kid is ready to start feeding themselves with utensils and their own plate or bowl, there are so many brands and styles to choose from. Plastic, bamboo, or stainless steel? All-in-one set or individual pieces? Compartments or no compartments?
Because your registry isn’t just a checklist, we’re here to help you choose what’s best for you. From moms and experts who have been through it all, these are our winners for The Everymom’s 2025 Baby Registry Awards.
While there is no right or wrong decision, you’ll want to consider how ready your child is, what your mealtime set up looks like (are they still in a high-chair or sitting at the table?), and if you’d rather buy items just for now or invest in items that your kiddo can use long-term. Also, don’t fret if your kiddo still prefers to use their hands more often than utensils earlier on. Just having utensils around for them to try is a good place to start.
As I was doing my own research for mealtime accessories for my son, I reached out to the other editors here at The Everymom to see what they were using. Below is a list of our favorite plates, bowls, and utensils for toddlers.
