The One Thing Making My At-Home Date Nights Extra Special This Season

I like spending time with my husband as much as the next girl, but this year has been something else. Between both of us working from home on top of not getting out of the house as often or seeing family and friends like we used to, the togetherness fatigue is real.

That’s why it’s so important to find a way to break out of the everyday mold and mix things up with a date night—even if it’s at home after the kids go to bed. And for me, there is one thing making planning a date night both easy and still special: a Sean Minor Wines Club subscriptionBefore kids, my husband and I loved the opportunity to take a break from our workweek with a bottle of wine. We had some of our best conversations over a rich Zinfadel or a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. Even now, I can remember the exact bottle we were drinking during some of our most special conversations. Those memories are so precious!

So it’s no surprise that nothing brings me joy—especially in 2020—like getting wine delivered straight to my front door. Oh, and enjoying it with my husband isn’t so bad either. It brings back a bit of that old, carefree magic.

The Sean Minor Wines team goes above and beyond other wine subscriptions. To start, each shipment is thoughtfully crafted by husband and wife team, Sean and Nicole Minor, including wines hand-picked by Sean with recipes to pair and a small gift selected by Nicole. This month’s gift was fun cocktail napkins that say “Keep Calm and Drink On” that made the perfect addition to my bar cart. I think many of us can relate to that mantra this year in particular.

My personal favorite part of the Sean Minor Wines club is that it’s an amazing deal at only $70-$75 per shipment (4 bottles) with shipping included. They offer two different wine clubs: Sean’s Picks Club is a mix of red and white wines, hand-selected by Sean, and Sean’s Reds Club is for the red-wine lover with four bottles of award-winning red wines hand-selected by Sean. The California-based company is family-owned, and they craft their own wines from premium appellations across California and Oregon—making the wine delightful and the price point approachable.

Even if you aren’t in the market for joining a wine club, chances are, you have a wine-lover in your life who would love to get some vino delivered straight to their door. A Sean Minor Wines club membership is a holiday gift (for those who are over 21, of course!) that keeps on giving all year long with deliveries in March, May, October, and December.

If you’re looking to create an at-home date night to mix things up and get through the remainder of this year, below are four ideas to get you started.

1. Relax With a Spa Night

Spas are not just for the ladies—guys like pampering too! Whether you can (and want to) fit into a bathtub together or opt for a steamy shower, turning what you have to work with into an at-home spa is the perfect way to relax and bond. Break into the sheet masks, the at-home manicure kits, the exfoliants, and massage oils—whatever you have at home will work perfectly. Then relax and unwind even more by adding a bottle of Sean Minor Wines into the mix!

2. Bring Fine Dining Home

Why wait for the holidays or a special occasion to cook a lavish meal, get dressed up, and break out your fancy dishware? Find a recipe like the one you might order at your favorite restaurant, and give it a go at home. Plus, you’ll get a suggested recipe pairing in each Sean Minor Wines club delivery to try out and add to your cooking repertoire.

Not into cooking? That’s fine too. One of my favorite things about this year is that just about anything goes—so if cooking together isn’t your thing and you want to order take out and serve it on a pretty tablescape, that works as well. Dress up and do your hair and makeup however you usually would for a night out to differentiate your at-home date from your status quo.

3. Snuggle Up for Movie Night

As fun as it might be to dress up and cook something fancy at home, sometimes you just want to get into your coziest PJs, snuggle up on the couch with a freshly poured glass of Sean Minor Wines, and watch a movie or a show. My husband and I have been re-watching a show we both loved in high school (The O.C.), and it has been so fun to bask in the nostalgia of simpler times. So whether it’s a thriller you’ve both wanted to see or a romantic comedy, snuggling up together—sans phones—is always an option.

4. Refresh with Fresh Air

Sometimes you just need to get outside, even if you’re technically still at home. If you have a balcony or patio space to step out to, then put the kids to bed, grab the monitor and a glass of Sean Minor Wines, and head outside together. As many people have pointed out, we’re not just working from home this year, we’re living at work, so getting away from a space where we spend so much time is essential. Plus, if you’re not surrounded by piles of laundry, toys everywhere, and messy countertops (please tell me it’s not just like this at my house?), you’ll find it easier to unwind and spark thoughtful conversation.
