Fall means two things for me: pumpkins on my front porch and the excitement of our favorite rewatches. Thanks to Netflix and other streaming services, we’re typically treated to new shows year-round—but, even so, the fall holds a special kind of excitement and nostalgia. The kind that makes us want to cozy up with our favorite characters we know and love. Without a doubt, this time of year can be a good time to rely on old favorite TV shows once the kids are in bed.
I know I can’t be the only one who feels one small breeze in the air, sees one leaf losing its green luster, and heads inside to pick up the remote and put on Gilmore Girls for the 17(th?) time. As summer comes to a close, the fall gives us an opportunity to slow down, and—honestly—an excuse to stay indoors. When this time comes around, I can’t think of a better way to feel all of the cozy vibes than with a comfort show. There’s nothing like being reacquainted with characters we adore, and, let’s be honest, sometimes it’s nice to know exactly what to expect.
If you need a little fall television inspo, here are some of our old favorites—dramas, comedies, and more—that we’re loving for a rewatch this time of year.
Fall-Favorite Shows to Rewatch
Gilmore Girls
Where to Watch: Netflix | Number of Seasons: 7
Not only is Gilmore Girls my personal favorite TV show, but it also has some stellar fall vibes, making it a must-view cozy rewatch this season. When an independent mom has a brainiac daughter and they live in a picturesque New England town, heartwarming chaos ensues.
Friends
Where to Watch: Max | Number of Seasons: 10
I know what you’re thinking—a Friends rewatch is good anytime of year, and I couldn’t agree more! But, when you take into account all of the iconic fall episodes, it feels especially fitting to press play as soon as you put up your fall decor. Think of all of the Thanksgiving episodes, the Halloween party, and all of the Rachel Green outfit inspo we need to get us through the holidays.
Charmed
Where to Watch: Peacock | Number of Seasons: 8
This fall rewatch is just spooky enough! Become an honorary Halliwell sister by giving this heartfelt and magical show a rewatch this fall. Descendants of good witches, you’ll laugh, cry, and cheer on Piper, Prue, Phoebe, and Paige as they navigate having supernatural powers in a natural world.
This Is Us
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 6
While not exactly a series we watched when we still had braces, the series aired its finale in May 2022 and we’ve been missing it ever since. If you, too, miss heartfelt speeches, Pearson family drama, and odes to Thanksgiving, let this show rip your heart out once again with a rewatch.
The Vampire Diaries
Where to Watch: Peacock and Max | Number of Seasons: 8
Halloween is right around the corner, so we had to include this vampire hit as a rewatch suggestion for this fall. Plus, if you’re feeling adventurous after the final credits, be sure to turn on the two spin-off series, The Originals and Legacies, for even more of your favorite Mystic Falls characters.
Best Dramas to Rewatch
Scandal
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 7
Need some Olivia Pope back in your life this fall? You’ll get more than enough drama from a marathon viewing of Scandal—and love every second of it.
Parenthood
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 6
The perfect “feel-good yet I’m crying” kind of show that I’ve personally watched two times all the way through. Rewatch the complex relationship of four adult siblings and their own families as they face everyday challenges that we all can relate to all too well.
Desperate Housewives
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 8
Before there were the Real Housewives, there was Desperate Housewives, and this show definitely deserves another round of viewing. Add it to your list ASAP!
Grey’s Anatomy
Where to Watch: Netflix | Number of Seasons: 20 (and counting!)
This list is supposed to be focused on shows that have come to a conclusion, but with 20 seasons under its belt (and season 21 coming this fall!), it felt OK to add Grey’s Anatomy to this list. All those episodes will keep you busy for a while! And if you catch up to current time, might as well go and watch the Grey’s spin-off Private Practice on Hulu as well.
Best Comedies to Rewatch
Parks and Recreation
Where to Watch: Peacock | Number of Seasons: 7
If you didn’t watch Parks and Rec when it made its way through Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime, it’s now available to watch on Peacock. If you’re up for signing up for yet another streaming service, you’re sure to love this laugh-out-loud show about the hilariously lovable Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana.
The Mindy Project
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 6
Mindy Kaling is the funny best friend we’re all searching for. Maybe this friendship will never become a reality, but at least we can spend 30 minutes per episode with her through Hulu. Follow along as she navigates her personal and professional life as an OB/GYN.
Glee
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 6
Even if you just have this on in the background to hear the music, it’s a great choice. A one-of-a-kind show, sing along as the students in glee club learn major life lessons between high school classes.
The Good Place
Where to Watch: Netflix | Number of Seasons: 4
With only four seasons, it won’t take you too long to get through this recent cult favorite. Thanks to a chance error, Eleanor Shellstrop ends up in “the good place” after she dies. Now, she’s determined not to leave.
The Office
Where to Watch: Peacock | Number of Seasons: 9
As a recent rewatcher of The Office, I can tell you that I literally LOL-ed multiple times during each episode. This show really holds up.
Sex and the City
Where to Watch: Netflix and Max | Number of Seasons: 6
SATC is just a generally enjoyable nostalgic show. I watched it during college with all my girlfriends crammed into a tiny dorm and dreamed of my future life in New York City. I was totally a Carrie. (But what 20-something thought any differently?) Now we can enjoy the old and the new by watching the first two seasons of And Just Like That on Max as well.
Schitt’s Creek
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 6
If you haven’t visited Schitt’s Creek in far too long, now’s the time to check back in on your favorite rich family who lost it all, only to gain so much more in the end. Cheer on some of the most iconic character development arcs ever and laugh your butt off while watching it again and again.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Where to Watch: Hulu and Max | Number of Seasons: 6
There’s nothing quite like a ’90s sitcom to set your mind at ease. Now’s as good a time as any to catch up on old episodes and brush up on your rendition of the theme song (but let’s be real, anyone who grew up in the ’90s for sure still has this memorized). When you’re done binging, watch the 2020 cast reunion special on Max next!
Spooky Season Shows to Rewatch
Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 7
It wouldn’t be spooky season without witches, and Sabrina happens to be one of our favorites. Feel all sorts of nostalgia with the original 1996 sitcom, or venture into a whole new world with the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 7
I did watch this show growing up and basically have zero recollection of what happened, so a rewatch would be like a whole new experience. If you need a refresh too, the name pretty much says it all. Follow along as teenager Buffy Summers utilizes her strength and abilities to fight vampires.
Supernatural
Where to Watch: Netflix | Number of Seasons: 15
One more long-running show we’ll add to this list: Supernatural. We were gifted with 15 seasons, so it may take you all of fall to get through it. But trust us, you’ll be hooked from the first demon slaying.
American Horror Story
Where to Watch: Hulu | Number of Seasons: 10
While not exactly cozy vibes, AHS is beloved by its viewers for a reason, and there’s no better time to rewatch than spooky season. For the ultimate spooky fall viewing, head to American Horror Story and enjoy (or cover your face with a blanket, which would be my approach).
