What is a Toniebox?
If you haven’t heard of a Toniebox, it’s like a modern-day CD player just for kids, but even better. According to the Tonies website, “The Toniebox is an innovative audio player for kids designed to bring audio stories, music, and learning to life for kids of all ages.”
Simply pop a Toniebox figurine onto the base of the box, and you have endless entertainment for your kids. It’s perfect for bedtime, car rides, and quiet time. Not to mention, one of the biggest upsides for me as a parent—while it’s technically an electronic—it’s a screen-free loophole that’s safe and ad-free, which allows my children to play independently.

What are the new Tonies products?
The Toniebox has a longstanding reputation as a parenting favorite since it was first founded over 12 years ago. According to the company, with the launch of the upgraded Toniebox 2, the Tonieplay games, and the My First Tonies, these new products are “marking a milestone” with “the introduction of a whole new way to play with Tonies,” states the Tonies company. Toniebox 2
Some of the best features included with the original Toniebox are its ease of use for little kids’ hands, its wide variety of collectible Tonie figurines, and the fact that it’s padded—a huge bonus if your kids are in the phase of dropping (or throwing) things.
But there are a few features that set this new product apart from the original. Tonies CEO Tobias Wann shares that the “Toniebox 2 is much more than just an updated version.” Wann adds, “Its interactive design lets even the youngest children take control of their play with simple, intuitive gestures.” Upgrades within the Toniebox 2 include:
New colors and rounded corners
One thing to note about the new Toniebox 2 is its modern design. There are new colors—sunset red, cloud pink, sky blue, and moon gray—available to choose from besides the six original colors offered for the original Toniebox. Plus, the new box has rounded corners. It’s also said to be more “squeezable” compared to the original Toniebox.
A dynamic light ring
When a Tonie figurine is playing on top of the box, the Light Ring glows in rainbow colors, which “gives helpful light cues to guide kids through the Tonieplay games.”
New smart bedtime and wake-up features
Unlike the original Toniebox, there is a new bedtime and wake-up feature that comes with the Toniebox 2. This addition “now supports families from morning routines to nighttime wind-downs,” says Chief Experience Officer Ginny McCormick and can be set up through the Tonies app.

It was designed with a younger audience in mind
It’s important to note that the original Toniebox is intended for ages 3 and older with the disclaimer that “younger children can also enjoy the Toniebox experience with proper adult supervision.” However, the Toniebox 2 is designed for kids ages 1 and older, and it’s meant to grow with your child.
Tonieplay
Exclusively designed for the Toniebox 2, the Tonieplay games are a new accessory to the famous Toniebox. The board-game-like experience “introduces a new category of interactive, screen-free games, quizzes, and adventures.” With audio prompts, players navigate through stories with challenges and games along the way. Kids can play with their friends and family or play independently, too.

The company also launched 12 unique Tonieplay games with beloved characters from PAW Patrol, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Winnie the Pooh, Disney Quiz Kingdom, and the Lalinos Tonies characters.

Keep in mind that in order to play any Tonieplay Game, the Tonieplay Controller is required. If the controller is not included in a Tonieplay bundle, it can be bought separately for $14.99.
My First Tonies
Whether you have a 1-year-old like mine, who loves his Tonies characters, or are wondering if your child will love the Toniebox 2 at all, starting out with the “My First Tonies” characters might be the best option for you. Specifically designed for children 1 year old and up, the My First Tonies figurines are reported to be soft and squeezable for their younger demographic. My First Tonies figurines can be bought individually or purchased in three-pack bundles—perfect for building a little one’s first collection. Furthermore, the squeezable Tonies encourages playful learning with age-appropriate songs and has an educational touch, like promoting new words to learn, and more.
