As someone who pays for far too many streaming services, I pride myself on watching a lot of television. It’s important to me that I stay up to date on the brand new shows everyone is talking about. Sometimes, though, when I’m exhausted after a long day, it’s easier to opt for something simpler. Something funny and lighthearted, but not massively overstimulating. For any tired moms out there, I’m sure this feeling rings true. When your kids have used up every ounce of your mental energy for the day, a short episode of a simple show is the best (and only) way to go.

Comfort comedies to rewatch

While comedies might not always fit the definition of a low-stimulation show, they certainly are feel-good viewing or something you can put on in the background. Plus, if you’re watching one of your comfort shows, it can be restorative—something every mom could use.

Young Sheldon

If you’ve ever seen an episode of Big Bang Theory, you absolutely have to watch this one. The series chronicles the childhood of boy genius Sheldon Cooper in his small town in Texas. It’s become a family favorite in my household when we just need to relax.

Grace and Frankie

One thing there can never be enough of is TV shows that highlight strong female friendship, and Grace and Frankie fits that bill. When their husbands suddenly announce they’re in love and are leaving their wives for each other, Grace and Frankie—well into their 70s—forge a life-altering bond.

New Girl
