Our Editors’ Must-Have Baby Registry Products

When you’re expecting a baby to join your family, there’s a lot of preparation to undertake. You make space in your home and mind, buy some of those adorable tiny clothes you’ve been eyeing for a while, and, of course, chat up all of your friends who are parents to get the details on what things you might need.

Even if you’re not having a baby shower, a baby registry is a great way to keep track of that list of “oh my gosh you must get” recommendations. Not only can you see all your coveted items in one place, but you can also track prices to see where you might be able to save in order to adhere to your budget. This is where it’s really helpful to register with a store like Walmart.com.

Not only does Walmart carry so many of the brand names you hear about from your parent-friends, but more than likely, they have them at a lower cost than other stores. And, not only do they have a handy app so you can add items right from your phone, but also welcome you into parenthood with an adorable welcome gift box of common baby items. Signing up is quick and easy, and they even start you off with a list of recommended items.

To get you started, our Editors have compiled their absolute must-haves in every category to add to your Walmart baby registry: gear, sleep, feeding, changing, bathing, toy, clothing, and health.

GEAR FAVORITE

BabyBjorn Lightweight Travel Crib

Originally, we had a different pack-n-play that was extremely heavy and took up a lot of space in our home and car trunk so we switched to the BabyBjorn travel lite crib and never looked back... it's on the more expensive end, but the mattress is very comfortable, setting it up is easy, it has a small footprint when packed and it's light enough to carry with one hand.

SLEEP FAVORITE

Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddles

These lightweight muslin swaddle blankets were wonderful for swaddling those first few weeks at home. Now our son Henry is one and we still keep one on hand always – the material lets air through so it works for everything from a stroller/sun cover to a lightweight summer blanket to a playmat when we're out and about.

FEEDING FAVORITE

Dr. Brown's Deluxe Baby Bottles Warmer

Wanting to limit the number of baby products we were buying, we were heating bottles the old fashioned way – in hot water on the stovetop. My brother (who is a father of three kids) said we had to get a bottle warmer and boy am I glad we did. This is automated to heat with steam for the number of ounces of milk you're preparing.

CHANGING FAVORITE

Pamper's Swaddlers Newborn Diapers

You are going to go through a lot of diapers. I recommending adding some in both newborn size and size 1 to your registry because the cost definitely adds up. We've used Pampers Swaddlers since Henry was born and have had hardly any blowouts... plus they're quite soft, not stiff!

BATHING FAVORITE

Mustela Newborn Arrival Gift Set

Ohhh this stuff is glorious. All natural baby bath products from France; and they smell like heaven.

TOY FAVORITE

Manhattan Toy Company Crinkle Tiger Baby Toy

Sensory toys and black and white toys are the best for infants' developing eyes and minds. The combination of crinkle paper, tags, and high contrast imagery makes this a great option for infant stimulation and entertainment – at home, in the car, anywhere!

CLOTHING FAVORITE

Simpliikids Wide Brim Toddler Sun Hat

Whether your babe is 4 weeks old or a year by the time summer rolls around, you want to keep their delicate skin protected from the harsh rays of the sun. This UPF 50+ sun hat offers great protection and the strap is essential to keep them from throwing it off their heads.

HEALTH FAVORITE

NoseFrida the Snotsucker Saline Kit

There is very little you can offer your tiny babe in the way of comfort when they catch their first head cold (and all consecutive colds). The saline spray and nose sucker will be your best friend to give them some relief (even if they aren't the biggest fans of the process – they'll be breathing better in no time).

GEAR FAVORITE

BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss Bouncy Chair

Our daughter Margot was a very fussy newborn and this bouncer kept her pretty calm and happy. Once she was a few months old and learned she could bounce it by kicking, she'd hang out in there for even longer periods of time. BabyBjorn makes a toy bar. It's a little funny looking but she loved it! Added bonus? It's beautiful, folds flat for easy storage, and can be enjoyed up until age 2!

SLEEP FAVORITE

Hatch Baby Baby Night Light & Sound Machine

The Hatch light is truly incredible. We always had a soft glow when we were feeding or changing Margot at night. Control it by simply tapping the top of the light with your hand, or using the Hatch app. The time to rise setting for older children is amazing – teach your child that they can get out of bed when the light changes colors! You'll use it from infancy to childhood. Bonus: It plays white noise, too!

FEEDING FAVORITE

Inglesina Toddler Table Chair

This chair is great for small spaces and when you're on-the-go, and I love that Margot is able to sit at the table with us. It takes up so much less space than a high chair and attaches to kitchen islands and dining tables, making it even easier to interact with baby during meals.

CHANGING FAVORITE

Ubbi Baby Wipes Dispenser

This seems like one of those gimmicky items you don't need, but you really do need it and will use it every time you change your baby's diaper. You can keep one hand on your baby and grab wipes (one at a time!) out of this dispenser with your other hand – it's a must for dirty diapers.

BATHING FAVORITE

The First Years Sure Comfort Newborn to Toddler Baby Bathtub

We used a different baby bath the first few months, but when Margot nearly hurled her entire body out of it, I needed a new one, and wish I had just gotten this one since it works for the first year.

TOY FAVORITE

Be Kind

This has become a go-to gift for baby showers. It's the sweetest book about what kindness means and I almost cry every single time I read it.

CLOTHING FAVORITE

Monag Long Sleeve Baby Gown

We relied on simple, cozy gowns those first few months. They made nighttime changes so easy – no dealing with snaps and zippers.

HEALTH FAVORITE

FridaBaby Nailfrida Solo Snipperclipper

Like most new moms, I was so afraid of hurting my baby with a nail clippers or scissors. I heard the best things about the FridaBaby nail clippers and am happy to report that we've had zero injuries almost 11 months in! They're so easy to use and do the trick every time.

GEAR FAVORITE

Delta Children Nursery Swivel Rocker Chair

After how many hours (days? years?) I have spent in this very chair, I can say that it's become an essential for us. From soothing tiny babies to sleep to sitting with sick babies who couldn't sleep to, now, pulling both kids in with me for bedtime stories before bed, I've spend a good chunk of my kids' babyhoods in this glider. It's comfortable and sturdy at a great price point. Pro tip: I chose whichever color was on sale to stay within our small nursery budget.

SLEEP FAVORITE

VTech Digital Audio Baby Monitor

After having two kids, I'm convinced that while a video monitor is nice for a few months, a simple audio monitor will save your sanity (and your wallet, tbh). After our borrowed video monitor broke, I grabbed this one quickly while running errands and have used it for both kids since then. It's a no-frills way to keep tabs on your baby, and the seasoned mom in me now knows that all I really need to know from my monitor is when my baby is awake instead of obsessing over every tiny detail like I previously was. And, for less than $20 you won't feel bad if it breaks (which, in 5 years, it hasn't).

FEEDING FAVORITE

Kiinde 40 Pack Twist Pouches

We tried just about every breastmilk storage bag, and these were the best. Their twist cap makes sealing so easy and prevents the leaking that I was finding in the zip top bags when you are defrosting. Even better, I used these for baby food storage too – it's easy to funnel in purees and freeze flat for efficient storage.

CHANGING FAVORITE

WaterWipes Sensitive Unscented Baby Wipes

My oldest was prone to reactions from different wipes and my youngest has eczema, so these truly clean wipes have become a staple for us. Both kids are now potty-trained, but I find myself still carrying a pack around of these around in my car, stroller, and purse for all of the sticky, icky, muddy messes they seem to get themselves into wherever we go.

BATHING FAVORITE

Munchkin Bath Tub Spout Guard

You won't need this right away, but in the time that you blink and your sweet newborn becomes a baby on the move, you will. 6 years later, this is still on our tub faucet to prevent injury from those all-too-common head bumps on the surprisingly sharp faucet.

TOY FAVORITE

Comotomo Silicone Baby Teether

It seems that babies turn into teething babies in no time at all and those teething babies tend to start chewing and sucking on their fingers the most, because, easy access, right? These teethers are the perfect substitute for those sweet tiny baby fingers. Since they're made from silicone and not plastic, they are the perfect texture to chew on comfortably. You can also throw them in the dishwasher or boil them on stovetop without worrying about degrading or leaching plastics.

CLOTHING FAVORITE

Luvable Friends Unisex Cozy Fleece Booties

Babies seem so sweet and helpless until you put socks on them and then all of a sudden they seem to summon the might of the universe in order to get. those. socks. off. Obviously, this doesn't fly in cold weather. These booties are perfect to keep those cute toes warm and are much trickier to pull off. At this price, you can grab an extra pair for your bag, too.

HEALTH FAVORITE

BioGaia Protectis Baby Drops

I really knew nothing about gut health until I had a baby with colic. After reading and researching all the information I could get my hands on, as well as consulting with our pediatrician and lactation consultant, we decided to add these BioGaia drops to our baby's diet. I can't say that it was a night and day difference – only time really helps to minimize colic symptoms – but I did notice some small changes and those small changes felt like huge wins at the time. After more research and reading, probiotics and prebiotic supplements soon became a part of the whole family's daily diet.

GEAR FAVORITE

Skiddadle Skip Hop Stroller Organizer

As a mom, you never have enough hands. I can't tell you how many times I've spilled my coffee since becoming a mom. I shove so much stuff in this organizer–coffee, bottle, sunglasses, wallet, spit cloth... it's a necessity in my book.

SLEEP FAVORITE

Nanit Smart Baby Monitor & Wall Mount

There are very few splurge items I would recommend for baby, but I really do love our nanit. We live in the city, and have a rooftop at our condo. The nanit allows us to take a glass of wine upstairs after we've put him down and not have to worry since it connects to our phones... from what I've seen, most traditional monitors would lose signal if you took them that far.

FEEDING FAVORITE

Boppy Newborn Lounger

No one warned me that feeding your newborn all the time would take such a toll on your back. I was in so much pain after the first few weeks because I was always hunching over. Not to mention, I never had a free hand. This boppy lounger pillow was a game changer for both myself and my husband. We used it more than anything else we bought. We would pop him on it in bed or on the couch and feed him with one hand- so insanely easy. I also put him on it when I had to run to the bathroom or shower and no one else was home.

CHANGING FAVORITE

Munchkin Changing Pads With Arm & Hammer Baking Soda

Our son was (maybe still is) king of the blowouts. He grew so quickly and kept outgrowing his diapers. It was so nice to keep the poop contained and not have to worry about scrubbing and cleaning up after. I just wrapped everything up and threw the whole thing away.

BATHING FAVORITE

Innobaby Silicone Cradle Cap Brush for Dry Skin & Eczema

Newborns have so much dry/shedding skin but their skin is super soft so you have to be careful and generally can't scrub them. This brush was so gentle and we used it to exfoliate his head- he loved it!

TOY FAVORITE

Go the F*ck to Sleep

I don't know what it says about me as a parent, but 4 people gifted us this book. Anyway, it's pretty funny and a good way to lighten the mood when you're a sleep-deprived maniac the first 6 weeks.

CLOTHING FAVORITE

Cozy Cover Infant Carrier Cover

While this technically isn't clothing, your baby should never wear a jacket or layers in a car seat, so in the winter, this served as our son's jacket and ensured he was super safe and snug in his carseat.

HEALTH FAVORITE

Vicks Digital Thermometer With Fever Insight Technology

When my son was 3 weeks old, I noticed he was feeling warm one evening. I took his temperature with a fancy thermoelectric thermometer we received as a gift. I got 10 different readings ranging from 98-101. Long story short, my son ended up getting a spinal tap having to stay in the hospital for 3 nights as a precaution- they do this any time a baby under a few months has a fever. What I learned from this was that sometimes tried and true products are much better than the hottest new thing. I implore all new moms to get a rectal thermometer so that you can make sure you have the most accurate reading possible.

GEAR FAVORITE

Graco 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat

This car seat is great because it grows with baby from infancy to booster seat. I wanted to invest in items that would really last us so we weren't constantly replacing things.

SLEEP FAVORITE

Halo Sleeper Swaddle

This sleep slack/swaddle was amazing for my winter baby who hated having both arms in. Very user friendly and grows with baby!

FEEDING FAVORITE

Medela Hands-free Pumping Bra

During my exclusive pumping journey this bra was a lifesaver. I was able to pump and work at the same time. It was very comfortable and held the pump cups in flush to my skin without compromising suction.

CHANGING FAVORITE

Hatch Baby Grow Smart Changing Pad & Scale

I love this changing pad so much! It has taken some serious abuse from my son and it wipes clean so easily. The scale in it is great and has been spot on and easy to use. I love being able to track his weight and their app is very user-friendly for tracking feedings, diaper changes, etc.

BATHING FAVORITE

Skip Hop Moby Waterfall Bath Rinser

This bath rinser seems like it might be unnecessary but it really is so helpful. It holds a good amount of water so you aren't constantly refilling and it makes it easy to keep water out of baby's eyes.

TOY FAVORITE

Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes Musical Toy

This toy is very simple but can entertain for long periods of time. It is easy to take when you are out of the house and easily fits in a purse.

CLOTHING FAVORITE

Carter's Child of Mine 2 Pack Baby Pants

I registered for mostly gender neutral baby clothes that would work for future babies since they outgrow everything so quickly in the beginning. During the day we lived in cozy pants and long sleeve ones and these basic pants fit great and were easy to pair with basic onesies.

HEALTH FAVORITE

Little Remedies Gas Relief Drops

My son has been a very gassy baby since the very beginning. During the first 8 weeks of his life he would scream and cry in pain until he could pass his gas. It was horrible to watch and we tried these in a desperate moment and they really worked! For the first few weeks we gave him these with every bottle and they really worked wonders in calming his pain.

GEAR FAVORITE

Baby Boom BB Gear Heather Grey Diaper Bag Backpack

I used a diaper bag that doubled as my everyday bag/purse and I loved the style. When my husband was out and about with the kids, he prefered something more gender neutral to carry with him. This bag was the perfect option for him.

SLEEP FAVORITE

Marpac Portable White Noise Sound Machine

This is the travel version of the popular Dohm sound machine and it was super helpful with masking outside noise when our babies would sleep. The machine gives off a natural wind noise, which recreates the sound of the womb, so it helps soothe my babies to sleep night after night. We now have two (one for each kid's room) and use them to this day.

FEEDING FAVORITE

NUK Stack & Store Baby Food Storage Containers

These are great for popping snacks into your bag when you're on the go. I would cut up some fruit or veggies and pack them up so my kids would have something healthy to snack on while we were out. They held up very nicely and I ended up buying multiples. I still use them to this day.

CHANGING FAVORITE

Osocozy Bleached Flat Diapers

Cloth diapers were a must-have in our household, as they had a universal use. We used them for anything and everything. They're great as burp cloths, as mini towels, for wiping spit-up and runny noses, and yes, for use as actual diapers.

BATHING FAVORITE

Dreambaby Room & Bath Thermometer

It was often very hard for me to know how warm the water should be when we were bathing the babies. This duck thermometer was great in letting us know the precise temperature while also giving them something fun to play within the bath.

TOY FAVORITE

Goodnight Moon

I have read this book every night for the first four years of my children's lives. It's so simple, sweet, and a great way to establish a nighttime routine.

CLOTHING FAVORITE

Gerber Organic Cotton Long Sleeve Onesies

We could never have enough plain white onesies for the babies. We went through 2-3 a day. This was the one staple that we would continuously purchase. They are great for layering and as a foundation for other outfits.

HEALTH FAVORITE

Hillda Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

My kids get sick about once a month. A humidifier is essential for helping with stuffy noses and congestion during the night, allowing for better sleep. We have one for each room and they remain a fixture on each kid's dresser.

GEAR FAVORITE

Baby K'tan Choose Your Size Baby Carrier

I loved how easy the K'tan was to get on and get baby situated. The fabric was breathable and it folded up nicely to fit in a diaper bag.

SLEEP FAVORITE

Gerber 2 Pack Cotton Baby Pajamas

Zipper pajamas were key for quick diaper changes in the middle of the night.

FEEDING FAVORITE

Philips Avent Formula Dispenser & Snack Cup

These were great for travel and for having pre-measured bottles at the ready in the middle of the night.

CHANGING FAVORITE

Triple Paste Medicated Ointment for Diaper Rash

My oldest had a terrible reaction to baby wipes when she was a newborn and a thick layer of Triple Paste (covered by Vasoline) was the only cream that worked for her. And was recommended by our Pediatrician.

BATHING FAVORITE

Munchkin Bath Letters & Numbers

Once your baby moves to a big tub, these are fun and great learning toys that you'll use for a long time.

TOY FAVORITE

On The Night You Were Born

A friend gave this to me and I cry every time I read it. I feel an extra special connection to the story, because my oldest was born around midnight.

CLOTHING FAVORITE

Carter's 4 Pack Side-Snap Tees

These are so easy to use as an extra layer. Plus they are easy to get on – just lay baby on an opened shirt and snap right up.

HEALTH FAVORITE

Silicone Finger Toothbrush with Carrying Case

A toothbrush that fits on your finger was the easiest way to brush my baby's gums and first teeth.
